HEMMET the home –  overlooking Simrishamn

Simrishamns hostel and B&B 🏡 was built in the 1950s as a nurses’ residence and designed by Valdus Wikén in the typical architecture of the time, with a focus on functionalism using sturdy materials and great light. The building has been a hostel / vandrarhem since 1998 and was then run as Stf Simrishamn vandrarhem. We reopened after a short break with new owners in January 2020. Today we offer affordable holiday accommodation for those who want access to a kitchen where you can make your own meals, as well as laundry facilities. Maybe as a break on your hike 🥾 or as an overnight stay during your cycling holiday 🚲 along the South East trail.

HEMMET the home, for those who want to holiday on Österlen on a budget but still stay in a comfortable home like atmosphere. We have decorated it with things we like and each room is unique with its own feel. On your leisure time you should be relaxed, therefore we provide you with ten comfortable rooms with separate WC/sink, that is six double rooms and four twin rooms. The beds are made when you arrive and the final cleaning is included in the price. From the double rooms upstairs you can see the sea on the horizon, overlooking the harbour.

We offer a price-conscious and environmentally friendly accommodation for you on an eco-holiday in Österlen, five minutes from the train station in Simrishamn. There are hourly buses and trains to Kristianstad, Malmö and Ystad. You can also easily get by bus from Simrishamn to nature conservation areas such as Haväng, Knäbäckshusen, Stenshuvud, or south to Grönet outside Brantevik, Skillinge’s fishing village Khyls Strand, Sandhammaren, Backåkra and Kåseberga.

The house is quietly located with its own garden 🌳, the hedges protect from the street outside and there is comfortable outdoor furniture in a relaxed atmosphere. The garden is perfect to take a break during hot summer days, where you can plan your day, eat your breakfast or just have a quiet moment with a book. There is a large barbecue you can use as well as outdoor furniture and hammocks to lie on. As we are located on a small hill near the centre and you can feel the sea as a background.

We are a environmentally friendly business with a focus on natural materials and eco-friendly products. The price of your booking includes a organic self service breakfast which you will find in the kitchen in the basement of the house. 🍎.

Discover Österlen

Haväng

Take bus three from Simrishamn and get off at Vitaby Church where the famous Swedish writer “the Pirate” is buried. You can either bring your bike or walk down to the nature reserve. Haväng is located on the southern part of Hanö Bay on the east coast of Skåne and is a very popular destination for many visitors to Österlen. At south, Haväng is connected to Stenshuvud National Park and to the north to Brösarp’s hills and Maglehem, as well as Vitelmölla’s beach hills. The area is very varied and the meadows slope dramatically down to the sea, one part of the coastal strip is sandy beach. There are two pleasant cafes and plenty to see, not least the horses and sheep that roam freely in the large field.

Knäbäckshusen

One of the finest beaches on Österlen can be found at Knäbäckshusen, which starts at Lilla Vik north of Simrishamn and continues up to Stenshuvud. The further north you go, the fewer other bathers you will have as neighbours. The beach is remarkable and enticing with the wild nature at your back and trees bending out over the sand.

Stenshuvud

Stenshuvud brings together all of Skåne’s nature, probably as it once looked in the past. Stone farms, grazing cattle on small fields and deciduous forest. The name itself comes from the bare headland overlooking Hanö Bay, 96 metres above sea level below. 

The summit of the North Stone Head towers 96 metres above sea level and is the highest of the three lookout points in the park. From here you have a view of the Baltic coast and all the way up to Blekinge. In the southern part of the park there is a fine sandy beach and further north you can swim from its cliffs instead. There is also a rock coffin that is more than 4,000 years old as well as the remains of an ancient and forgotten castle.

Simrishamn

Simrishamn is the capital of Österlen and your starting point for your holiday, known for its blocks of authentic small houses along cobbled streets. In the harbour you’ll find ice cream stalls and restaurants as well as along Storgatan with its various shops and cafés. We especially like KIN Bakery & Fik on Regeringsgatan, The Farm’s wood oven with its cosy Mediterranean atmosphere as well as Quartey’s vegan fantastic and affordable crossover kitchen.

General terms and conditions

Living at HEMMET means showing consideration for people’s differences. As a guest, you are expected to sort your waste, not to disturb other guests but also not to be unnecessarily irritable towards others, showing generosity and consideration. It should be pleasant to live together.

When you book your stay with us, you are responsible for any costs incurred due to negligence, lack of judgment, such as costs for fire extinguishers, allergy remediation or other costs due to negligence on your or your party’s part.

You are also responsible for any damage caused by you or your party. In addition, HEMMET reserves the right to charge a disturbance fee of up to SEK 2,000 to compensate other guests who have been disturbed. Pets and smoking are not allowed. Missing room keys will be charged with SEK  1,000 for changing the lock.

Cancellation

Payment is made at the time of booking. Cancellations can be made up to 14 days before the booked arrival date. After that, there is no refund of the amount paid.

Discount 10%

All those who holiday by bus and train, or by foot and bicycle are entitled to a 10% discount on the booking price, when booking directly with us. We call it the eco-discount, because the way we travel often has the biggest environmental impact during our holidays.

Card payment

Card payments are made using Stripe.com or PayPal.com. Alternatively, book by invoice and pay by bank transfer. Your booking is valid from the moment payment is made.

We are probably not alone in finding it difficult to know how to deal with the ongoing pandemic. We have written this text, not least to have some guidelines to follow ourselves.
